Grenada “The spice island!”

Recently I was lucky enough to visit Grenada – it is a very pretty island and some of the scenery is stunning.  The atmosphere here is very laid back and the people are amazingly friendly.  Grenada has been lucky and has remained largely uncommercialised sticking with their local treasures and boutique style hotels.  The beaches are beautiful and would satisfy all you beach lovers but it has some lovely sights to visit as well, waterfalls, rainforests, spice plantations and rum factories!   There are some fantastic restaurants and I can definitely recommend the locally caught fish and seafood, most of the food is flavoured using all the locally grown spices.  Grenada manages to combine luxury with culture and really gives you a feel for the West Indies and what it is really all about.  I visited a few hotels during my stay and here are my thoughts on some of the best:

Spice Island Beach Resort

Set on Grand Anse beach and owned and run by Sir Royston Hopkins and his family it is a really stylish hotel.  Beautifully designed whitewashed hacienda style buildings with contemporary rooms.  The hotel combines elegant style with an exceptional service which is very much hosted by the family.  It even has its own vegetable garden and on a Friday much of the produce is enjoyed by its guests!

Prices from £1908pp all inclusive

Calabash

Everything about Calabash is peaceful, set in a horseshoe shape around the pretty gardens. Contemporary suites tastefully done in pastel colours, all feature whirlpool baths and have lovely terraces to sit out on.  The extra touches give Calabash its charm, breakfast on your terrace, fruit served on the beach and canapés delivered to your room each evening.  It has an excellent Rhodes restaurant the only one outside of the UK and the waterfront spa is due to open in the New Year.

Prices from £1388pp bed & breakfast

Mount Cinnamon

This is the latest brainchild of British entrepreneur Peter de Savary – Mount Cinnamon is a luxurious villa style boutique hotel and really is a home from home.  It is set up from Grand Anse beach and the room all have stunning views.  Beautifully decorated with everything you need from a Smeg fridge in your kitchen to a washing machine should you need it?!  Mount Cinnamon really offers you an independent stay with excellent staff and all the facilities of a hotel should you want it – and buy the way the restaurant is excellent!

Prices from £1735pp bed & breakfast Please call me for more details on any of the hotels and the island, I will happily bore you with my experiences!
