Travel Guides
Little can prepare you for the flavours and colours of Thailand a land of fascinating culture and stunning natural beauty. My journey began in Bangkok a city like no other with its hectic nightlife, amazing culinary scene and shopping in the famous markets with one of the worlds greatest retail centres you really have to see Bangkok to believe it!
After one night stay it was all aboard the legendary Eastern and Oriental Express for me the superb service, delicious cuisine and elegance of this luxury train really made this a truly special way to experience the beautiful countryside before arriving in Chiang Mai.
Chiang Mai is home to fascinating temples and monasteries and of course the famous elephant sanctuaries. We trekked through the jungle on elephant back stopped for a wash in the river before heading back to feed the young ones! Chiang Mai is another good place for night markets a great place to barter for your souvenirs!
Our journey continued south to the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen - we stayed in Phuket for the first night before heading to Khao Lak where you can experience the most amazing sunsets! There is something for everyone in Phuket from the bright lights of Patong to the secluded bays with some amazing hotels dotted along the coast. In Phuket town you can explore the colonial heritage and buy some arts and crafts in the markets. Khao Lak is surrounded by protected national park with stunning beaches an excellent diving destination. If you are thinking about your next beach holiday in a fantastic hotel with lots to see and do then Phuket has to be the place.
Thailand is a country where you can combine a number of experiences or just pick a couple to enjoy it in a more relaxed way, of course the food is all part of the country’s culture a treat of any stay here. The gourmet restaurants will serve you delicately spiced aromatic feasts or at the lively night markets you can sample a real Thai Curry!!
If I took away one lasting memory of Thailand it has to be the hospitality of Thai People they have the warmest of smiles and nothing is ever too much trouble they really do make this country a fantastic place to visit.
Here are some of my hotel recommendations
The Peninsula Bangkok
“The Peninsula is set by the Chao Phraya River and close to the Grand Palace. A perfect option for a sophisticated stay with a contemporary feel. There is an amazing Spa by ESPA perfect for relaxing after a hectic day in the city!
The Metropolitan Bangkok
A cool and contemporary east-west aesthetic with modern Oriental accents is combined with award-winning cuisine, a fantastic spa and Bangkok's chicest lounge bar sister to the Met Bar in London!
Mandarin Oriental Chiang Mai
Spread over 60 acres of natural landscapes the Mandarin Oriental is a luxury holistic retreat where ancient Lanna architecture elides with modern comfort. Oversized villas with terraces some with private plunge or swimming pools overlook lush rice paddies. The restaurants are amazing and you can also learn to cook authentic Thai cuisine at the Oriental Culinary Academy.
Banyan Tree Phuket
Set by the golden sands and gentle waves of the Andaman Sea Thailand, the Banyan Tree Phuket hotel is a luxury spa resort exuding luxury and tranquility. This luxury 5* hotel is situated in the manicured grounds of the Laguna Phuket boasting the finest facilities and ambiance. Perfect hotels for honeymooners with the private villas set amongst the gardens why not look at upgrading to one of the private pool villas spectacular!
The Sarojin Khao Lak
Situated about one hour from Phuket is home to the Sarojin a boutique hotel with 56 residences designed in a contemporary Asian style. Set in 10 acre grounds with private access directly onto a white sandy beach and the crystal line waters of the Andaman Sea – perfect for a spot of diving!
