There are few destinations in this world that can match the Amalfi Coast's reputation. I adore Italy and I have been wanting to explore this area for a long time. I only had 3 nights, but it certainly gave me a flavour and has definitely left me wanting more!
I visited the gorgeous town of Positano and stayed in the beautiful Villa Franca, had lunch at the stunning Casa Angelina (definitely on my stay again list!) and took the hydrofoil over to the wonderful island of Ischia for a few nights at the homely Garden Villas.
Positano - Central location on the Amalfi Coast
Approximately 20 kilometres from Sorrento along the Amalfi Drive, perches the exclusive cliff-side fishing village of Positano with its pink, cream and yellow villas dramatically clinging to the terraced mountainside.
Positano is a beautiful location, ideal for honeymooners and romantics, with its spectacular views overlooking the sparkling Mediterranean. In the village itself, narrow cobbled streets and flights of steps lead up and down past fashionable boutiques, bars and excellent restaurants.
The Amalfi Coast puts you within easy reach of Pompeii, Vesuvius and Herculaneum, which can be visited as excursions or independently if you hire a car or travel by train. The islands of Capri & Ischia are easily reached by ferry and make a great day trip.
Villa Franca - Perfect Peaceful Spot in Positano
A five-star hotel on the Amalfi Coast, set high on a hill overlooking the bay. A peaceful enclave just 200 steps away from Positano town centre and within easy reach of two nearby beaches.
Thoughtfully designed rooms and suites fuse pared-back simplicity with clever detailing that references both the landscape and local heritage.
Whether you are lazing about on a poolside sun lounger, basking on your very own private terrace, enjoying a romantic dinner in the gourmet Li Galli Restaurant, or watching the sunset with a cocktail in hand, every moment at Villa Franca is meant to be a special one. Their team of caring, dedicated staff are always on hand to make sure you have everything you need.
Casa Angelina - a superb hotel in the village of Praiano
The cliff-top hideaway of Casa Angelina offers a tranquil and peaceful retreat where you are assured the warmest of welcomes.
This gem of a hotel is perched high above the picturesque village of Praiano, just around the bend from Positano and a few kilometres from Amalfi. It is set amidst magnificent olive and lemon trees.
Clean white lines dominate the property and accentuate the modern paintings, Murano glass and numerous sculptures. The contemporary, minimalist-style bedrooms boast designer furniture and offer every amenity coupled with stunning sea views.
Mediterranean gastronomy combined with Amalfi Coast flavours is featured at the romantic Un Piano Nel Cielo restaurant. Its panoramic terrace provides a delightful setting for al fresco dining. Sun worshippers can lounge by the pool or take a lift down to the hotel’s private beach.
Island of Ischia
As Capri’s lesser-known cousin, Ischia is known for its thermal baths, sandy beaches and soaring peaks. This island offers so much, yet attracts a fraction of the fame heaped on nearby Capri.
A good thing many would say, as it doesn’t have the cruise ships or hoards of day trippers! Ischia is four times larger than its neighbour, and features some truly world-class attractions, including the spectacular Aragonese Castle and the stunning Mortella Gardens.
Ischia boasts numerous thermal gardens and natural springs. (A holiday that involves healing and spas, yes please!).
There are three main resorts, each with its own unique charm.
• The young or young at heart will love the island’s capital, Porto d’Ischia, with trendy bars and a glamorous seafront
• Beach lovers may prefer Sant’Angelo, dominated by a spectacular sandy beach and backed by a dramatic mountain peak
• Those wanting the best of both worlds should visit Forio. It’s the perfect mix of coastal cool and Ischian culture, with historic alleyways to explore as well as a beautiful beachfront to stretch out on.
Garden & Villas Resort in Forio, Ischia
The Garden & Villas Resort is situated just outside the picturesque town of Lacco Amen. It's just a few minutes stroll to the sandy bay of San Montano and Negombo thermal spa gardens.
The resort comprises 9 villas of typical Mediterranean architecture. They are all located in the resort’s beautiful 3 acre gardens, rich in Mediterranean and native plants and flowers.
Reflecting the style of the villas, there are two restaurants (within the gardens) to choose from. “La Ginestra” serves authentic Mediterranean cuisine and “Corbezzolo”, situated by the pool, is ideal for light lunches and snacks.
There is an excellent sized outdoor thermal pool with a spacious panoramic roof terrace, equipped for sun-bathing in total peace and quiet. The spa centre offers pampering treatmentscombined with the healing thermal waters of Ischia.
The owners of the hotel are aware of the importance of protecting the environment. They have integrated an eco-friendly system designed with energy-saving materials, reducing the use of energy, water and natural resources. They are constantly active in reducing waste and utilizing eco-compatible produce. A lovely friendly hotel in a great location.
