Recently, I had the chance to experience life on board an AmaWaterways river cruise. Although this was a short taster sailing for travel specialists, it gave me a fantastic insight into what you experience on a typical 7-night or longer river cruise. It’s safe to say I came away impressed.

Small Ships, Spacious Feel

AmaWaterways ships typically carry around 156 guests, which creates a relaxed atmosphere where you quickly feel at home. Despite their size, the ships feel spacious, bright and beautifully designed, with cabins that feel comfortable rather than compact. With fewer guests and an excellent crew-to-guest ratio, service feels personal and attentive, the team quickly get to know you and your preferences.

A Food Lover’s Dream

If food is important to you when travelling, river cruising delivers in a big way. AmaWaterways takes pride in showcasing local flavours and seasonal ingredients, often inspired by the destinations you visit. Many dishes incorporate ingredients sourced from nearby farms, wineries and markets.

The dining options include the main restaurant and The Chef’s Table which was a real highlight for me. The multi-course tasting menu, complete with wine pairings, felt like a fine-dining restaurant experience, and every dish was outstanding.

River cruising offers much more than sightseeing

AmaWaterways includes a wide variety of daily shore experiences, from guided walking tours and historic site visits to bike rides, hikes and culinary tastings. Each destination typically offers three activity levels, meaning you can explore at a pace that suits you.

Back on board, there’s plenty to enjoy, a heated pool on the sun deck, gym and fitness classes, yoga and wellness sessions with the onboard wellness host. Some of the newer ships even include pickleball courts!

My Verdict

What stood out most during my time on board was the balance. The ships feel luxurious but relaxed, the food is exceptional, the excursions are varied and well organised, and the atmosphere encourages you to connect with fellow travellers and the knowledgeable crew.

It’s a style of travel that appeals not only to experienced cruisers but also to people who might never have considered cruising before.

A personal visit to one of Europe's newest and impressive medical wellness retreats. Living better for longer starts here.

I have just returned from my first personal visit to ZEM Wellness Clinic Altea and it has set a very high benchmark for medical wellness in Europe. Set in the hills above Altea with mountains behind and the Mediterranean stretching out ahead, ZEM combines advanced medical diagnostics with a holistic philosophy of health and longevity. But what struck me most is how seamlessly everything works together. This is not simply a spa retreat or a medical clinic. It is a place where you can understand your body properly and begin making meaningful changes.

One of the things I loved most about ZEM is the sense of space. The hotel is light and airy with large open areas and beautiful design throughout. Despite the scale of the facilities it still feels boutique, with just 84 suites. Rooms are large and thoughtfully designed, with stunning sea views, generous bathrooms, dressing areas and extremely comfortable beds with a pillow menu. Everything feels five star but also relaxed and easy to settle into. Outside there are three pools, a lovely outdoor dining area and a peaceful courtyard filled with orange and cypress trees. With the mountain backdrop and Mediterranean sunshine it is an incredibly calming place to spend time.

The nearby town of Altea is charming and well worth visiting during a stay. The old town sits on a hilltop with cobbled streets and a pretty church with its distinctive blue roof at the centre. There are wonderful restaurants and boutique shops, while the coastline offers several pebble beaches with beachfront dining and water sports. Sandy beaches can also be found nearby in Calpe.

The spa at ZEM is one of the most impressive I have seen. There is a large indoor pool along with warm and cold plunges and an extensive thermal circuit that includes a hammam, snow room, salt room, infrared sauna and traditional steam rooms.

The fitness facilities are equally strong with state of the art equipment, personal training, reformer Pilates and yoga studios.

This balance between movement, relaxation and recovery is very much part of the philosophy here.

At the heart of ZEM is the medical clinic. Advanced diagnostics include comprehensive blood testing, body composition scans, metabolic assessments and high resolution imaging. Consultations cover a wide range of specialisms including cardiology, integrative medicine, gynaecology, urology, dentistry, aesthetics and psychology. What impressed me most is that everything is explained clearly and used to create a personal plan. The focus is not just on identifying issues but understanding the root cause and beginning to address them. The doctors are highly knowledgeable and take a progressive, holistic view of health alongside the impressive technology.

Having everything under one roof is incredibly efficient.

One of the highlights of my visit was a tour of ZEM’s organic finca. Around 60% of the ingredients used at the hotel come from this farm, which produces more than 60 varieties of fruit, vegetables and medicinal plants along with olive oil. It is a peaceful and beautiful place with wonderful views and big plans for the future, including expanding production and creating forest based activities such as yoga and meditation in the hills.

The food across the resort reflects this philosophy. Seasonal, Mediterranean and anti inflammatory, with menus tailored to each guest’s programme and dietary needs. Every meal felt nourishing but also genuinely delicious and filling.

ZEM offers a range of wellness programmes depending on your goals. Even the three night Essential programme includes consultations with a nutritionist, metabolic testing, longevity medicine assessments, ECG testing and a combination of spa therapies and wellness treatments. Longer stays allow for deeper analysis and more comprehensive programmes covering detox, weight management, immunity, neuro balance and longevity. Plans can be created before arrival with the doctors, or adjusted once you are there based on your results.

ZEM works surprisingly well for many different travellers. It is ideal for solo guests. The environment is welcoming and supportive and I never once felt uncomfortable travelling alone. Couples also work well here, particularly if one partner wants to follow a wellness programme while the other prefers a more relaxed stay. There are pools, spa facilities, nearby restaurants and the beautiful town of Altea to explore. It is also an excellent option for busy executives, parents needing time to recover and anyone wanting to address specific health concerns.

In reality, most of us could benefit from taking time to properly understand our health and make positive changes.

Easter Skiing? Go High in Tignes & Val d’Isère

Why choose High Altitude at Easter

By April, many lower resorts in the Alps are battling slushy afternoons, patchy pistes, and closed valley runs. But Tignes and Val d’Isère form the legendary Espace Killy ski area , where top lifts reach around 3,400–3,450 metres . Thanks to glaciers like the Grande Motte in Tignes and the Pissaillas in Val d’Isère, skiers can still carve crisp turns long after other resorts have packed away their season.

More altitude means:

Reliable snow cover on upper pistes
Longer season , often until early May
Cooler temperatures up top , preserving conditions

Tignes

Altitude advantage : The main villages of Tignes Le Lac and Val Claret sit at about 2,100 metres , higher than most Alpine resorts. Add in the Grande Motte glacier (3,456 m), and you’ve got some of the most dependable snow in Europe.

What to expect :

Great snow quality in the mornings, even on lower runs.
Softening/slush on sunny afternoons down at village level.
Superb high-altitude cruising on reds and blues above Val Claret.
Family-friendly base with ski-in/ski-out convenience.

If your main priority is snow security , Tignes often edges out Val d’Isère thanks to its higher base.

Val d'Isere

Resort character : Val d’Isère sits lower at 1,850 metres , but with lifts reaching 3,300+ metres and the Pissaillas glacier, it holds snow surprisingly well. The village itself has more of a traditional Alpine charm compared to Tignes’ purpose-built layout.

What to expect :

Reliable skiing above mid-mountain, especially around Solaise and Bellevarde.
The Pissaillas glacier near Le Fornet offers excellent late-season runs.
Lower slopes to La Daille or down the valley can get patchy or slushy.
A livelier après-ski scene and picture-postcard village feel.

If you want atmosphere, nightlife, and charm alongside great skiing, Val d’Isère delivers.

Easter skiing tips for both resorts

Ski high, ski early : Get your best runs in before lunch while the snow is still firm.
Save lower runs for later : By afternoon, expect soft snow or slush lower down.
Check avalanche forecasts : Spring warmth can destabilise snowpacks, especially off-piste.
Enjoy the sunshine : Longer days, mountain terraces, and blue skies are part of the Easter magic.

So, which one should you choose?

Pick Tignes if: you’re focused on guaranteed snow, glacier skiing, and convenience with ski-in/ski-out bases.
Pick Val d’Isère if: you want a blend of reliable late-season skiing with more traditional Alpine charm and lively après-ski.

Either way, both resorts are among the very best places in Europe to ski at Easter . High-altitude terrain, glacier access, and a long season make the Espace Killy a safe bet for snow when many other resorts are already turning green.

Thailand – The “Land of Smiles”

Thailand has come a long way from its days as a well-kept secret among backpackers. Today, it’s one of Southeast Asia’s most accessible and welcoming destinations, and it’s easy to see why. Often called the Land of Smiles, Thailand is celebrated not only for its breath taking beauty but also for the warmth and friendliness that greets you everywhere you go.

From energetic city streets and unforgettable cuisine to white-sand beaches and jungles thick with tropical greenery, Thailand offers a little bit of everything. And last month, I was lucky enough to return. It had been 16 years since my first visit, but the moment I arrived, I was reminded exactly why this place captured my heart the first time around. Thailand still manages to surprise, delight, and completely draw you in!

Exploring Thailand’s Coastal Gems: Khao Lak, Phuket & Koh Yao Yai

First we explored three beach destinations that couldn’t have been more different, yet each perfectly Thai.

Phuket was a thrilling introduction. Vibrant markets, colourful streets, stunning viewpoints, and lively beaches made every moment exciting. I stayed at the beautiful Saii Lagoon Phuket , visited Como Point Yamu , and experienced the luxury of Anantara Mai Khao , capped off with a memorable lunch at Anantara Layan, each offering a perfect mix of scenery, comfort, and top-notch hospitality. A visit to the Phuket Elephant Sanctuary was unforgettable, giving us the chance to meet and learn about these incredible animals in a responsible, ethical environment. To feel Thailand’s energy in a different way, we also jumped into a Muay Thai boxing class , which was as exhilarating as it was exhausting!

Next up was Koh Yao Yai , a hidden paradise just a short boat ride from Phuket. The island felt untouched and serene. We explored Hong Island and Monkey Island by boat and lounged on quiet beaches with views that felt almost unreal. Time seemed to slow down here, making it impossible not to savour every moment. Anantara Koh Yao Yai was a perfect choice for families or couples, with two excellent restaurants, a huge main pool with a swim-up bar, and a stunning location.

Finally, Khao Lak was the ultimate place to unwind. Long, quiet beaches, gentle waves, and a slower pace made it easy to relax. I stayed at the luxurious Sarojin Khao Lak and explored Devasom Khao Lak , soaking in the natural beauty and tranquillity. Mornings were for beach walks and tree planting, afternoons for exploring national parks, or simply enjoying a cold drink by the sea. The Sarojin Spa is also not to be missed. Peaceful, authentic, and perfectly secluded, Khao Lak is ideal if you want to disconnect without feeling isolated.

Bangkok: The Thrill of the City

My last night was at the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok a true icon of luxury. Set on the Chao Phraya River, it combines elegant rooms, personalised touches, and impeccable service. From riverside views to exquisite dining it’s a peaceful, unforgettable retreat in the heart of the city. Staying here isn’t just about comfort; it’s an experience that captures the best of Bangkok’s charm and sophistication.

For a complete contrast, we also had lunch at The Siam , a unique property that feels more like a museum than a hotel, with bedrooms, art, and antiques at every turn. Eclectic, charming, and perfectly Thai, it was an experience unlike any other.

Even in just 24 hours, we managed to soak up the city. We took a long boat tour through Bangkok’s khlongs, passing the iconic Grand Palace , visited a rooftop bar for the stunning views (oh and cocktails!), and enjoyed a fun evening at the Mandarin Oriental’s Thai restaurant Sala Rim Naam, complete with traditional Thai dancing.

Before our flight home, we spent a leisurely afternoon by the Mandarin Oriental pool , indulging in the beautiful setting and impeccable service, an unforgettable way to end our trip.

From tranquil beaches and hidden islands to vibrant city streets, Thailand offers a journey full of contrasts, and every single one left a lasting impression. I can't wait to go back!

Tracy Explores the Seychelles Island You’ve Probably Never Heard Of…

It might surprise you to know that the Seychelles were completely uninhabited until the late 18th century. With no indigenous population, everyone here has roots from somewhere else Africa, Europe, Asia, and that blend of cultures has created something truly special. Seychellois Creole (Seselwa), a soft, French-based language, is spoken alongside English and French, and this diversity shines through in the islands’ music, dance, food, and everyday warmth. But what really sets Seychelles apart isn’t just the vibrant culture or the picture postcard-perfect beaches, it’s how fiercely this place protects its wild beauty. Nearly half of the entire land area is preserved as national parks or nature reserves, and unlike in other destinations where nature is often curated for aesthetics, here it's left untouched, sea grass is left to grow, coral is allowed to thrive, and wildlife leads the way. You’ll find giant tortoises, rare birds, pristine reefs, and forests you can hike through without fear, no snakes, no poisonous insects, just pure, unspoiled nature. It’s one of the few places where wild still feels safe. Peaceful, stable, and deeply respectful of its land, Seychelles is more than just beautiful, it’s grounded, and it’s real.

A Remote Island That Gets It Right

While many travellers stick to the main island of Mahé or the better-known resorts, Seychelles is actually made up of 115 islands, each offering something different. If you really want to get under the skin of this place, island-hopping is the way to go. There's a wide choice of accommodation across the islands, from polished resorts to laid-back barefoot luxury. But for me, the real standout on this trip was Alphonse Island .

Alphonse isn’t widely known, and that’s exactly what makes it so special. It’s not about glitz or glossy perfection, it’s about feeling something unique. I spent 7 nights there, and it was unlike anywhere I’ve ever stayed. The moment you arrive by small jet, with views over turquoise atolls and endless reef, the energy changes. Shoes become optional (you’ll dine in the sand most nights), and the pace slows. This is barefoot luxury in the best possible way.

Accommodation is made up of beach bungalows and villas, each with bikes so you can cycle around the island (buggies are available too if you’d rather not).

Where Nature Leads

Alphonse is shared with the Island Conservation Society , and that relationship shapes everything. From beach clean-ups to monitoring turtle nests and bird populations, conservation is woven into island life. The team is deeply committed, and guests are invited to learn, take part, and genuinely connect with the land and sea. One of my highlights? Meeting George, the island’s oldest resident - an enormous and friendly tortoise age unsure but definitely over 90!

You’ll find a stunning mix of wildlife here: turtles bobbing just offshore (you’ll likely see them while eating lunch), giant tortoises roaming free, reef sharks and manta rays spotted while snorkelling, and birdlife everywhere. There are no dangerous animals, just wild, thriving nature that feels intimate and safe. It’s the kind of place where you leave more connected to the world, not just more rested.

From Farm to Fork, Literally

The island also has its own farm , and it’s one of the most impressive I’ve seen. Luke, who runs it, arrived three years ago and has transformed it - 80% of the food now comes from the island itself. They even make their own coconut flour and have beehives for honey. He works closely with the chef to design seasonal, thoughtful menus, not just for guests but also to reflect the staff’s diverse backgrounds. The result? Food that’s fresh, flavourful, and full of love. It was easily one of the best food experiences I’ve had in a hotel environment.

Adventure, or Absolute Stillness, you Choose

Days on Alphonse can be as full or as quiet as you like. You might start with a morning snorkel alongside turtles, sharks, or join the conservation team for turtle patrol, tracking nests and watching hatchlings find the sea. There are manta ray experiences, beach clean-ups that make a real impact, and even the chance to snorkel with sailfish, something I’d never even heard of before visiting.

Out on the water, there’s world-class diving, kayaking, paddleboarding, and surfing when the swell allows. Alphonse is also renowned for its fishing, serious anglers travel across the globe to experience it. If you prefer to stay on land, there’s tennis, table tennis, or the simple joy of cycling the island’s 6km loop.

And then there’s the birdlife, everywhere you look, there’s something to spot. Red-footed and white-footed boobies, frigatebirds soaring high above the water, and herons standing still as statues in the shallows. Whether you’re a seasoned birdwatcher or just quietly curious, it’s impossible not to notice how alive the skies are here.

When the sun sets, the experience doesn’t end. With no light pollution at all, stargazing becomes a nightly ritual, one evening we lay on the airstrip, staring up into a sky so full of stars it felt almost unreal.

You’ll Leave With Stories and Friends

Beyond the food and the conservation, what truly stays with you is the people . The team isn’t hidden away, they’re part of the island. You’re made to feel like family, and it’s not surprising to meet returning guests on their 7th or 8th visit. There’s a sincerity to the hospitality that’s hard to describe but impossible to forget.

Whether you’re swimming with turtles just off the beach, star-gazing on the runway under skies untouched by light pollution, or simply cycling past palm trees with the breeze on your skin, Alphonse invites you to live slowly, simply, and in harmony with nature.

Stunning St. Lucia: Tracy’s Travel Notes & Top Tips

It has been over 20 years since my last visit to St. Lucia, a family holiday with my two young sons. Coming back, I was reminded why I loved it so much. The island is stunning, with a real variety of landscapes, friendly locals, and a vibrant culture that blends British, French, and Caribbean influences.

It’s not just about the beaches (though they are beautiful). St. Lucia offers everything from volcano visits and rainforest hikes to chocolate-making, rum tastings, and relaxing by the sea. The range of hotels is impressive too, stylish stays in some of the most scenic spots I’ve seen.

Whether you're here for a few nights or a full adventure, St. Lucia truly has something for everyone, and it’s even better the second time around.

North vs South: Where to stay

There’s no “best” side of the island, I did both and loved them for different reasons. If you have time, I’d definitely recommend splitting your stay to experience both sides of St. Lucia.

The North is where the energy is: close to restaurants, nightlife, and the famous Friday night street party (so much fun!). You’ll find great hotel options here, plus easy access to Castries Market a lively, traditional open-air market full of local flavour and history. For a bit of adventure, head to Pigeon Island National Park, where old pirate hideouts and forts meet beachy views and hiking trails. I visited several hotels in the north including Windjammer Landing, The Landings, Cap Maison, BodyHoliday, StolenTime and East Winds, all unique in style and vibe. The South, reached by a fun and scenic boat transfer (highly recommended!), offers a different kind of experience, dramatic landscapes, iconic Piton views, and some of the island’s most unforgettable hotels. I visited Jade Mountain, Anse Chastanet, Ladera, and Sugar Beach, each offering something unique, from architectural wow-factor to barefoot luxury. You can hike the Pitons, explore the charming town of Soufrière and its world-famous sulphur springs, or simply relax and take in the scenery, whatever your pace, the South delivers big on natural beauty and adventure.

Insider Tips & Good to Know

When to Go
The main season runs from December to May, but I’d actually recommend visiting in the off-season (June to November). Yes, you’ll get the odd tropical shower but it’s still hot, the rain usually doesn’t last long, and you’ll enjoy better rates, fewer crowds, and no cruise ship influx.

Currency
You can use both US Dollars and the Eastern Caribbean Dollar (EC). Most places accept USD, but you may get change in EC.

Plugs & Power
Many hotels use UK-style plugs, but it’s smart to pack a US adapter just in case — especially for smaller properties or older resorts.

Bring reef-safe sunscreen, insect repellent, water shoes (for waterfalls or boat landings), and a light rain jacket. And don’t forget a dry bag if you're heading out on the water.

What I Loved Most

What has really stayed with me is the people, they are warm, proud of their island, and always ready for a chat. There’s a genuine friendliness in St. Lucia that makes you feel instantly at home. I loved the rich culture, the mix of fun and flavour, and the sense that there’s always more to discover.

The variety of hotels was a real highlight, each one with its own charm, from sleek luxury to barefoot boutique. Add those jaw-dropping landscapes, the incredible food, and hands-on moments like rum tasting and chocolate making, and it’s easy to see why I was completely swept away.

If I had to pick standout moments? A private wine cellar dinner and sunset rum punch at Cap Maison, the surreal view from Jade Mountain, the ultimate indulgence of Sugar Beach, I’m still talking about the açaí bowls at breakfast!

St. Lucia has a way of making a lasting impression and I already can’t wait to go back.

Fan of "The Durrells"? This is the perfect trip for you!

"Durrells in Corfu" is a captivating British TV series based on Gerald Durrell's trilogy. Set in the Greek island of Corfu, it follows the adventures of the eccentric Durrell family. With stunning scenery and heart warming storylines, this show has captured viewers worldwide. If you haven't watched then I highly recommend the series, but even better why not take a trip there!

This month I have been lucky enough to visit Corfu with CV Villas, my trip kicked off with a visit to the Grecotel Corfu Imperial Hotel. A truly stunning hotel nestled on its own private peninsula in Kommeno Bay. It's super chill and secluded but just a quick 20-minute drive from the hustle and bustle of Corfu Town, and even closer to Gouvia and Dassia. The hotel has four Blue Flag beaches - sandy ones mixed with shingle - so you've got options galore for soaking up the sun or trying out some water sports. A pool area that was huge, so ideal for families! Plus, there are five top-notch restaurants on-site. All in all, this 5-star gem offers a classic and elegant style hotel with warm service despite it's size. They also offer everything from rooms for 2 up to huge private villas (with pools) overlooking the bay!

Following our short visit to the Grecotel Imperial, we continued our journey approximately 35 minutes up the coast to Avlaki Bay in the North East region, where we stayed in a great 5 bedroom villa with CV called Indiana. A charming stone built house, with extensive gardens, a large pool, hot tub and even a huge outdoor garden chess board! A perfect location about 10 min walk into Avlaki Bay and even closer to the sea. This area boasts a series of stunning bays offering breathtaking views, charming towns, and villages such as Kassiopi, Agni, Avlaki, and Kalami. Kalami is particularly renowned for the picturesque White House Restaurant, famously featured in the filming of The Durrells. We explored these coastal gems on our own 30hp boat which we skippered for the day. Renting a boat is easily accessible along this coastline, allowing you to cruise the calm waters and stop by delightful tavernas nestled along the bays for a relaxing lunch. It was such a fun experience and one I would highly recommend doing.

There are luxury cruises—and then there's Sea Cloud. I recently had the chance to experience this extraordinary ship, and it was far more than a voyage, it was an adventure. If you're curious about what sets Sea Cloud Cruises apart, I will share the highlights of a journey that exceeded every expectation.

The story begins in 1931, when cereal heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post commissioned what was then the largest private sailing yacht in the world. With golden swan-shaped taps, marble fireplaces, and French antiques, Sea Cloud was a floating expression of elegance and ambition. Nearly a century later, that same spirit lives on—both in the original ship and in her graceful sister, Sea Cloud II.

First Impressions

The 'wow' moment came almost immediately. Seeing Sea Cloud II for the first time with her billowing sails and classic lines, she looked more like a movie set than a modern cruise ship. There’s something deeply nostalgic about her presence—elegant, timeless, and unlike anything else at sea. And yet, behind the old-world glamour, you’ll find all the modern comforts you could ask for. I felt a genuine sense of excitement just stepping aboard, knowing I was about to experience something truly unique.

What Makes Sea Cloud Different?

Sea Cloud II isn’t your typical cruise. It’s more like sailing on a private yacht with a rich history and all the comfort of modern luxury. What struck me most was the flexibility of the itinerary, the ability to change course and discover smaller, more unusual ports that larger ships simply can’t reach. It feels personal and immersive, with an ever-present sense of discovery.

There’s also the freedom to make the trip your own. Whether you're sipping wine on deck or stepping ashore to explore a new destination, each day offers a fresh sense of discovery and delight. In the lounge, there are relaxed lectures on the fascinating history of Sea Cloud and insightful previews of the next destination. If you’re heading off to explore on your own, the team is full of helpful hints and tips—you’re never pressured to join an organised excursion unless you want to.

One of the most memorable moments for me, was watching guests climb the rigging, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the brave. The crew were incredibly supportive, and seeing fellow travellers reach the top with pride was both emotional and empowering, even from the safety of the deck (I’m not great with heights!).

Who is Sea Cloud For?

Before boarding, I imagined Sea Cloud II might cater mostly to older travellers, but I was pleasantly surprised. The guests were a vibrant mix—couples, friends, and solo travellers in their 30s, 40s, 50s and up. It’s a shared experience, often chosen to mark a special occasion, and it offers something for everyone: culture, history, luxury, and a sense of freedom.

Magical Moments at Sea

One unforgettable moment was spotting dolphins swimming alongside the ship during an excursion in Cassis. Completely unscripted, and magical. Another standout was visiting the small town of Collioure where I learned about the origins of Henri Matisse, a perfect example of how this journey continuously weaves culture into the itineraries.

Addressing the Unknown

Since you may not have heard of Sea Cloud Cruises, you might imagine the typical cruise experience. But this isn’t about large ships or crowded decks. This is intimate, luxurious sailing where you feel like part of a story. It's elegant but relaxed, adventurous yet comfortable, and completely different from what you might expect.

Personal Takeaways

I boarded the ship knowing a little about its history, but I left with a deep appreciation for everything it represents. The cabins were far more spacious and luxurious than I expected, and the food was consistently excellent. But more than anything, it was the atmosphere refined, warm, and quietly adventurous.

Discovering Malaria-Free Lodges with Bianca

Africa – they say it captures your heart, and its so true. I was fortunate enough to visit South Africa on my honeymoon in 2010, which led us to the Kruger National Park and then to Mauritius. Fast forward 14 years, and I had the privilege of returning (while celebrating my wedding anniversary) with my almost-teenager this time!

My journey led us to two renowned game reserves: Madikwe Game Reserve in South Africa's Northwest province and Welgevonden Game Reserve in the Waterberg district. Both offer sightings of the Big Five and a wealth of captivating wildlife experiences.

Madikwe Safari Lodge - Lelapa

"Lelapa" the Setswana word for "family," warmly invites you and your loved ones to enjoy the malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve and promises an experience designed for the whole family. The accommodation is ideal with a spacious open-plan bedroom and bathroom, along with a separate cosy sleeping area for children. Our ranger, Byron, was exceptional with our daughter, sharing fascinating bush facts that greatly enriched her experience.

The camp's relaxed yet luxurious atmosphere and exceptional service make you feel at ease while being surrounded by the thrilling adventures of the game reserve. The watering hole located near the swimming pool is a captivating spot where time seems to slip away. One afternoon, as we lounged by the pool, a herd of elephants made an appearance. We were spellbound for about 45 minutes watching these majestic creatures, and were even luckier to witness their playful babies joining in the water. It was a mesmerizing experience for my daughter, who was completely captivated (and happily off her phone!).

The food was so good catering really well for families with plenty of options to suit everyone. Of course being in South Africa the choice of wines were very appealing too! They have a fantastic kids eco-house the perfect place for children to learn about conservation at Madikwe and enjoy arts & crafts, jewellery making and much more. Whilst the kids enjoy themselves here parents can relax in the outdoor lounge area or take a nose in the lodges gift shop. There is also a gym & spa if you are feeling energetic or want to relax even more!

Ekuthuleni Lodge, Welgevonden Game Reserve

After spending three incredible nights in Madikwe, our journey took us east to the Waterberg district. We stayed for two nights at the captivating Ekuthleni Lodge, which was a stark contrast from our previous stop as it is completely isolated from other lodges, offering a more private experience with even less vehicles around. This game reserve is smaller than Madikwe, making it easier to spot certain animals like rhinos. We had memorable sightings of elephants and an unforgettable encounter with a lion and lioness - the lioness came so close to our truck that I could feel my own heartbeat racing! The lodge itself was charming and felt like a welcoming home. The cuisine was exquisite, and they took excellent care of our daughter. With an age restriction of under 12's, the lodge has a sophisticated atmosphere perfect for couples or honeymooners. There was a small pool overlooking the plains and even the option for in-room massages, adding to the overall relaxation and luxury.

Fairlawns Hotel & Spa, Sandton Johannesburg

Our last evening was spent in Sandton, Johannesburg, approximately 25 minutes away from the airport. Having this final night here was truly delightful as we could unwind, relish more delectable cuisine and wines, and indulge in some time at the Spa and pool. Following five nights on safari with those early wake-up calls (around 5:30 am!), you genuinely crave a day of relaxation. Another possibility would be to extend your trip to a beach destination like Mauritius or Mozambique. However, if time doesn't allow, I highly recommend ending your journey with a night of leisure. We enjoyed two Spa treatments, had a sushi lunch, and savoured a three-course meal at their fine dining restaurant. To our surprise, the bill turned out to be very reasonable considering all that we experienced! One of the reasons why SA is such a popular choice.

Tracy's Costa Rica experience

Welcome to Costa Rica, the happiest place on Earth! From the moment I arrived, I could feel the warmth—not just from the sunshine, but from the people, who seem to radiate a natural joy that’s contagious. This small, beautiful country is brimming with lush rainforests, unspoiled beaches, and an astonishing variety of wildlife, making every day an adventure and a feast for the senses.

Costa Rica is famous for its commitment to preserving its natural treasures, leading the way in eco-tourism and sustainability. It’s one of the few places where you can explore untouched rainforests in the morning, lounge on a deserted beach by afternoon, and still have time for an adrenaline-filled adventure, zip-lining through the jungle canopy, white-water rafting, or surfing on world-class waves.

But what really captures the essence of Costa Rica is the spirit of 'Pura Vida' meaning Pure Life, you will see it everywhere! It’s more than just a phrase; it’s a way of life that reflects the Costa Rican outlook, one that’s about embracing life’s simple pleasures, connecting with nature, and savouring the moment. Whether it’s chatting with locals, marvelling at a sunset, or getting lost in the beauty, Costa Rica has a way of grounding you, of making you feel more alive.

For me, this country is pure magic - here's a snapshot of what we got up to....

Pacuare River

About an hour and half drive from San Jose, we met our friendly guides who took us rafting down the stunning Pacuare River to our lodge. The journey itself was so much fun, bouncing over rapids, then gliding smoothly through sections of the river surrounded by nothing but lush green forest and the sounds of nature. When Ave Sol River Sanctuary appeared around a bend, it felt like we were entering a hidden paradise.

Nestled high on the riverbank, our rustic cabins had stunning views up and down the river. The peace here is like nowhere else; just the rush of the river and the songs of birds to lull you to sleep. A wonderful digital detox. My son said it was the best night's sleep he’d ever had!

Ave Sol is more than just a place to stay—it’s a sanctuary for the wilderness around it. The people here are committed to protecting this beautiful area, working with local communities to keep the Pacuare River wild and free. Simply by being here, you feel part of that mission. Arriving by raft, surrounded by the untamed beauty of the river and forest, felt like the only way to come into this magical place.

Arenal

Our next stop was Arenal, home to Costa Rica’s most iconic volcano. Towering over the landscape, the sight of Arenal is truly stunning, particularly when viewed while sitting in one of the hot springs. Soaking in the warm (heated by volcanic energy!) mineral-rich pools surrounded by lush jungle with the volcano looming above is a magical experience. We stayed in two different lodges, each allowing us to wake up to breath taking views of Arenal right outside our window, the picture above wasn't photo shopped! Manuel Antonio

On Costa Rica’s stunning Pacific Coast this was the perfect spot to unwind after a few days of adventure. Golden beaches stretch for miles, and the tropical coastline feels like paradise itself. Manuel Antonio National Park is a real gem, with white-sand beaches, lush rainforests, and incredible wildlife everywhere you look. We spotted playful monkeys, lazy sloths lounging in the trees, a colourful array of tropical birds, butterflies and lizards and even a rarely spotted anteater!

Osa Peninsula

Our final and most unforgettable stop took us to the southwestern tip of Costa Rica. The Osa Peninsula feels like a hidden corner of the world, untouched by time and rich with biodiversity. The road winds through vibrant jungle landscapes, leading to our lodge El Remanso - a place that feels both utterly remote and completely welcoming.

Undiscovered Italy with Magari tours by Tracy

I was fortunate enough to be invited to experience a new concept and a new company, Magari Tours. They are launching in Italy and offer handcrafted, authentic escorted tours that provide a deeper, more immersive, and truly authentic experience. We flew into Milan where we were greeted by our wonderful tour host Wendy. We then travelled north to the Lombardy region, enjoying breathtaking views on our way to the hillside village of Rota d’Imagna. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the hotel owner Giampiero and his family; it became evident that this was truly a family-run establishment! The hotel boasted lovely accommodations with incredible views overlooking the valley. After settling in, we had the pleasure of participating in a cooking lesson where we learnt how to prepare the delicious local pasta dish casoncelli - accompanied by some delightful local wine, of course!

The next day we visited the Sanctuary Cornabusa, a church carved into the hillside with the most incredible views and famed for its holy waters said to cure the sick. We were treated to some delicious cheeses and wine by the family that runs the restaurant above – it came with the most incredible chutney made by Davide’s Mum. She bottled me up a jar but unfortunately wouldn't give me the recipe��

In the following days, we visited cobbled Bergamo, Lake Iseo, had a wonderful lunch at Stala, visited some superb wineries and agritourism farms. Everyone we met was passionate and incredibly welcoming. This is truly a unique experience; if you love Italy and want to discover something new, support local communities, and leave a positive impact on your stay, then this is for you. Tracy's trip to Peru

I was invited on a trip to learn about the magical place of Peru and it truly did not disappoint. The journey was packed, with visits to Cusco, Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu, followed by a two-day South American training academy in Lima before heading back home. It was an incredible experience where I gained valuable knowledge. My previous travels to Buenos Aires and Rio during my BA days already sparked my love for this vast continent, and this trip reignited that passion. The people's warmth and dedication to their country and sustainability, the delectable food, affordability, and abundance of unique experiences left me in awe. Flights connecting through Europe offer access to all of South America, while BA provides direct routes to Costa Rica, Buenos Aires, Rio, and Sao Paulo. Machu Picchu

It was an absolutely amazing day with incredible weather and breath taking views. Travelling by train was a great choice due to time constraints, offering a wonderful experience on its own. The Inca trail is a classic option for hiking enthusiasts, spanning 4 days and 3 nights. There are various alternatives like lodging, glamping, and horseback riding available as well. For those short on time, there's a one-day hike entering Machu Picchu via the Sun Gate. It's advisable to book early as permits are limited. Spending a night in Machu Picchu or Aguas Calientes allows for an early morning exploration of the ruins before the crowds arrive as well as visiting in cooler temperatures rather than the blaring midday sun.

Sacred Valley

Immerse yourself in the tranquillity of this secluded Andean spot, an ideal starting point for your Inca adventure. Take your time to absorb the breath taking views and adjust to the altitude during a few days stay. Discover unique hotels that harmonise with nature, offering exceptional dining options and a variety of activities. Sardinia has been on my wish list for a while. I have heard so much about this sophisticated Italian island, so I jumped at the opportunity to visit the north coast and explore the variety of hotels that the Delphina group has to offer. It truly didn't disappoint; the island is stunning, and the range of accommodations available is impressive. From spa-focused resorts to family-friendly options, romantic getaways, as well as villas and apartments with hotel amenities - it offers a diverse selection that caters to different tastes, needs and budgets.

Beach lovers

Sardinia boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, characterised by miles of white sands and crystal-clear aquamarine and emerald green waters. The landscapes are diverse, with other areas showcasing rugged cliffs, secluded coves, and charming harbours. Wherever you find yourself on the island, those stunning blue waters are always within reach. Bianca discovers the beauty of Oman

With spectacular mountains, deserts, and pristine coastline yet all wrapped up with ancient heritage & unspoilt landscapes Oman is a fantastic choice for those looking to seek a more authentic Arabia. A surprising contrast to some of its Arabian neighbours!

Having been lucky enough to see Dubai, Abu Dhabi and now Oman, I can safely say Oman is by far my favourite. There is something for everyone and the Omani people make this an inviting, safe, and friendly place to visit.

The coastline offers you an array of modern luxury hotels such as Jumeirah, Shangri La & Kempinski to name a few. As well as the oasis that is, the Chedi, a boutique style resort close to the city centre. What makes Oman different is that it is, far more than just beautiful beaches with stylish hotels. The vibrant souks with narrow streets and impressive forts of Muscat which have retained their ancient charm, along with the dramatic landscape as you head inland and up into the mountains with hilltop castles and majestic dunes of the desert is what makes a trip to Oman so special.

An excellent choice for families, couples, golfers, and adventure enthusiasts Oman has it all! Plus, with a 7-hour direct flight from London (daily) it’s a perfect choice for a long weekend or 10-day break.

The Chedi, Muscat

A pioneer in the region, one of the first stylish resorts to open in Muscat. The Chedi is a great start to any Oman trip. Only 20 minutes from the airport and home to the Middle East’s longest pool it’s a magnet for holidaymakers seeking peace and tranquillity, with the city on your doorstep. We were lucky enough to stay in the Chedi suites, a one-bedroom suite with a huge bedroom, lounge, bathroom, plus lots of lovely touches like a full-sized bottle of Gin! There is a private beach, tennis courts, a superb Spa with amazing views and plenty of great dining options. I think it’s a perfect place to start for a few nights before exploring the mountains and further.

Alila Jabal Akhdar, Al Hajar Mountains

The Alila is a very special place. The rooms were probably my most favourite designed rooms of everywhere we stayed or saw. The stone clad buildings surrounded by dramatic canyons from the clifftop position make the entrance to this hotel truly unique. The Spa was huge with so many different treatments on offer, the dining outlets all superb, the hotels true spirit lies outdoors with the serene pool, the hikes to the villages or Nizwa just 1 hour away. It’s like nowhere else I have been and just everything about this resort was amazing – I think you can tell it might have been my favourite!

Shangri La Al Husn, Muscat Bay

Considered one of the most exclusive hotels in the region I could see why, greeted by a superb team and whisked to our gorgeous sea facing rooms I felt at home within minutes of settling into my room. The smiles and the heartfelt thoughtful service was exceptional. Located at the end of the bay in a beautiful cove with private beach. The sister hotels Al Bandar (good for everyone) & Al Waha (great for families) are situated along the same bay - Al Husn guests have the added benefit of using all their facilities and dining outlets. A truly authentic Arabian inspired palace sitting on the clifftop commanding fabulous views I would highly recommend to couples wanting to escape the hustle of life.

My trip was filled with so many highlights. A visit to the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque for starters, one of the few in the country open to tourists. The main prayer hall carpet took 600 women over 4 years to hand weave! Everything about the building was stunning, it was hard to imagine 7000 people being able to fit into the one hall we stood in. Upon leaving the city we took a 2.5 hour journey to the mountains. Only accessible by 4x4 this wasn’t for the faint-hearted. Although the roads are pretty new (compared to ours) and very smooth, it was quite steep at times, however the picture stops made it worth it. Once you reach the mountains the temperature drops about 20c and makes a pleasant day enjoying the surrounding villages, and the activities on offer at places like the Anantara & Alila hotels.

One huge high for any adrenaline junkie would be to complete the nearly 200m of via ferrata snaking across the cliff edge as well as completing Oman’s first zip lines. I thought I would be brave and give this a try - I got as far as one rock down and turned back, although I love skiing in the mountains, this was a step too far!

For those less adventurous, a cocktail at Diana’s point with views over the canyon is a must. After 2 nights we returned to the city for a couple more nights in Muscat Bay exploring yet more of the city including Nizwa fort and the souks, and to haggle for a bargain at the many jewellery shops or spice outlets. Oman surpassed all expectations, the Omani people really do stand out and make this a unique place. I can’t wait to return.

Tracy's South African adventure

Africa has been on my bucket list for a long time. I knew it was going to be special, and it truly was. It's a bit of a reset place, being in nature, close to animals, mixing with local life; it felt like going back in time in a good way. Even though it was a holiday, I moved around a lot because there was so much I wanted to check out - the trouble was every place made me want to stay longer! I loved it so much - there is no doubt that I will be going back.

Grab a cuppa; I have tried to keep it as short as possible, but there's so much to tell...

Cape Town

Even though it was winter, we arrived to glorious weather and headed straight up Table Mountain. The views were breath taking, offering a fabulous first glimpse of the city. Cape Town is known for experiencing four seasons in a day, with Table Mountain often covered in clouds. I recommend pre-booking 'fast track' tickets for flexibility in case of weather changes. That evening, we explored the V&A Waterfront; the Watershed is a must-visit showcasing local artisan companies with beautiful clothing, beauty products, and stunning art and crafts. I can recommend Time Out food market that offers a variety of culinary delights under one roof and also Silo for rooftop incredible cocktails watching the sunset and dinner (must make a reservation if you are not staying there). The next day we took a private Cape Peninsula tour, we visited Boulders Beach to kayak with penguins (you have to meet Terry an amazing conservationist trying to save the penguins) and enjoyed a picnic at Cape Point (Brendan's secret location) prepared by local celebrity chef Nicky Gibb (made in her home kitchen with ingredients from her garden). Our guide Brendan (amazing) shared insights on orcas, declining sharks, and increasing seal population during our Cape Peninsula tour. It was truly a magical day that should be part of any Cape Town itinerary.

Winelands

The journey from Cape Town to the Winelands is a straightforward route, making it ideal for a self-drive adventure. Our initial destination was Franschhoek, located approximately 45 minutes away from Cape Town. Known as the gourmet capital of South Africa, Franschhoek boasts over 50 wineries and high-end restaurants. We had a delightful lunch at La Residence, a stunning boutique hotel, before continuing our trip to Stellenbosch where we stayed at Lanzerac Wine Estate. This magnificent Manor house has a rich history dating back to 1692; both the building and its grounds are breath taking, hard to imagine a fire destroying it not that many years ago. The estate features a luxurious spa and serves exceptional cuisine. We had the mouth watering 7-course tasting menu paired with wines from the estate, an experience I highly recommend. Regrettably, our time in Stellenbosch was limited to just one night; I would have relished exploring more, especially taking a ride on the wine tram through the many vineyards.

Safari

We flew from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth but you can easily continue your garden route self drive to Lalibela Game Reserve. The pursuit to protect wildlife and provide conservation areas is core to the success of these game reserves and especially at Lalibela. With the opportunity to see the big 5 in a non-malarial area, this makes it a fantastic first-time safari experience for families, friends, and couples. Enroute to our lodge, we were greeted by a female cheetah and her four cubs; it took us by surprise it was if they had come to make their personal greeting! The lodge was comfortable and quiet with excellent staff and food, along with a lovely pool to relax during the day. We had wonderful sunny, clear blue sky days, the mornings were cold (wear layers although there are hot water bottles and ponchos on the vehicle). By late morning, we were peeling off layers as temperatures crept up to 30°C in the middle of the day. We had two game drives a day with our ranger Liesel – we saw lions, giraffes, hippos, black & white rhinos; watched a herd of elephants play at the watering hole; and had sundowners as they crossed the plain. It was a magical experience and our ranger was excellent; she really made it special. It's worth letting them know in advance what you want to see and your interests so they can match you up with a ranger as they have several that who specialise in different fields like birds or plants.

Durban - Sala Beach House

From Port Elizabeth, we flew to Durban, an easy journey with another hugely warm welcome. Upon arrival at Sala Beach House, the atmosphere is akin to stepping into someone's gorgeous home, and the ocean view is simply incredible. With only 7 rooms and an exclusive 3-bedroom villa, it exudes stunning elegance and serves as a perfect place to unwind after the excitement of the safari. I particularly enjoyed the early morning yoga sessions overlooking the ocean and listening to its soothing sounds. The tranquil spa was a delight with its variety of treatments; I indulged in some amazing reflexology and a deeply relaxing massage. Once again, the food was outstanding; we dined at a beautiful table with a view over the ocean's edge - truly breathtaking! Despite it being winter, the temperature was a balmy 27°C - just perfect!

Mozambique

For me, Mozambique was all about the beach and a stripped-back way of life. It's also another great option after a safari for some R&R - it's a little harder to get to than Durban but worth it. We stayed at White Pearl Resort on Mozambique's Lagoon Coast. There are 22 luxurious ocean-facing and spacious suites set into the hillside, each with its own pool, outside shower, and private butler. The beach is stunning; it stretches for miles, and you can walk without seeing another person except for the odd fisherman. The food again was exceptional, and the service was warm and incredibly friendly. A fantastic range of activities and an excellent spa make for a truly memorable stay.

Tracy's epic Australia adventure!

T his was a trip of a lifetime for me, something I have been waiting a long time to do! It really didn’t disappoint, Australia is an amazing country, easy to travel around with a wonderful climate and a vast array of experiences. If you are foodie you will love it, I had some of the best food I have ever tasted, lots of variety with the emphasis on local produce. We packed a lot in however, I made sure we had a good mix of experiences and time to relax. Its tempting to want to do everything but Australia is vast, I recommend sticking to one section experiencing it fully, and making sure you have some downtime. You can always go back I most definitely will!

Malaysian Airlines

Their warm service is what sets them apart and they have their newer planes on the longer sectors - I highly recommend the extra legroom seats, they are very well priced, located at the front of economy it feels a bit like Premium. The food wasn’t great so if you are not a fan of airline food then take your own!

Sydney

I had 6 nights here, a nice amount of time to recover from the jetlag and see everything the city has to offer. It was winter but still 19C and sunny most days – winter is a good time to do the east coast as the weather is still pretty good (it gets warmer the further north you travel) it’s not as busy or as humid as the summer months. I stayed with my brother but did a few site inspections at some favourite hotels - it’s all about the location in Sydney. Having said that wherever you are everything is within easy reach either by foot, bus, train or tram. Here are some of my Sydney highlights:

Guided tour of the Sydney Opera House - the construction of it is a great story beautifully told by our guide, we also had a peep into rehearsals for the opera that was starting at the weekend. Have a look at what shows are on while you are there and book in advance (of course we can help you with that).

Ferry to Manly – I walked along the beach, watched a surf lesson and had some delicious locally caught fish & chips.

Bondi to Coogee coastal walk - a 15 minute bus ride from central Sydney, its beautiful and takes about an hour.

Botanical gardens and Art Gallery - they have a new north wing which is spectacular.

Tina Turner the musical at the Theatre Royal – what a show I loved it and the theatre is beautiful.

Superb restaurants – I have put together a great list; some will need to be booked in advance.

Blue Mountains

This was a flying visit but well worth it - if you are into your scenery and/or a bit of hiking, then I would recommend staying for a night or 2. It could also be done as a day trip on the train from Sydney it’s a scenic ride up.

Hunter Valley

Such a beautiful part of the world, quiet, windy roads lined by vineyards with the odd kangaroo hopping across! We stopped for a visit to Running Horses vineyard for some wine tasting – quirky and fun with some great wine. Dinner was at Leogate another great vineyard, a lovely spot with an excellent meal.

Port Stephens
Port Stephens, Guud Ji Yiigu is part of the country of the Worimi Aboriginal Nation. Home to giant sand dunes and some amazing coastline with spectacular views – just perfect for a spot of dolphin and whale watching! We stayed at the Koala Sanctuary, a fairly new operation with a mix of cabins and glamping tents, set amongst the koala’s and the koala hospital. It’s well run, and you get an early morning tour and talk of the sanctuary included to watch the koala’s having their breakfast. It’s a lovely spot and something a bit quirky however, it’s about a 15-minute drive out of town.

Port Mcquarie
A coastal town with a pretty walk along the waterfront – great spot for fishing and watching the world go by. Whale spotting in season from Tacking Point Lighthouse is a stunning view and if you’re lucky you may spot a humpback! Great choice of seafood restaurants we ate at the Waterfront a gorgeous setting with excellent food.

Byron Bay

We stayed at The Byron at Byron Bay Resort & Spa – it’s about 10 minutes drive outside of Byron set in a private 45-acre rainforest setting. It is a completely unique location, a real oasis for us to relax and rejuvenate on our journey North. I walked along the beach, enjoyed an afternoon cocktail by the pool and had an excellent freshly prepared locally sourced meal under the twinkling lights of the canopy of the Forest restaurant! Early morning yoga on the veranda was an excellent way to start the day before heading off to explore Byron. Famous for its beaches, surfing and snorkelling. It has a chilled beach vibe with gorgeous boutique shops, organic cafes and restaurant, I loved my Acai bowl for breakfast at Bills café.

Brisbane

Brisbane is a city gearing up for the Olympics in 2032, I think when the building works are all finished it will be excellent. A great way to see the city is by the free ferry that takes you up and down the river. The chargeable City Cat takes you a bit further and a golden ticket can be bought from any 7/11 shop. The food scene is up and coming, the Howard Smith Wharf has a great vibe with some excellent restaurants and bars (its on one of the free ferry stops).

Hervey Bay

A sleepy coastal town 3 hours north of Brisbane, with long stretches of beach, where you can spot dolphins and whales (May to October). While we were watching the sun go down, we spotted a shoal of dolphins playing it was just magical. You can take several trips from here, but we chose to visit K’gari (Fraser Island).

K’gari (Fraser Island)

A short ferry ride from Hervey Bay takes you to this UNESCO listed island which is the only sand island in the world to have a rainforest. It is 90% vegetation, there are no roads and can only be travelled around using 4WD, it is also one of the only places you can see Dingos in their natural habitat. I recommend a guided tour we had Butch to take us around for the day his knowledge on the history, vegetation and wildlife was incredible! We swam in Lake Mackenzie (one of the most photographed lakes in Australia) famous for is white silica sand and unique PH crystal clear water. The water has a high acidity and along with the perfectly spherical sand means a scrub and a swim in Lake Mackenzie claims to make you 10 years younger! Am not sure that was the case, but my skin felt lovely for ages after. There is no running water in or out of the lake so take care with sunscreens/soaps and leave nothing behind. We spotted dingo’s on the beach and took a seaplane flight (one of only 2 places in the world you can take off/land on sand) the views over butterfly lake were spectacular and we managed to spot 5 humpback whales! This island is completely unique and a real highlight of my trip.

Port Douglas

A short flight from Brisbane to Cairns and just over an hour's drive along a pretty coastline brings us to Port Douglas. Port Douglas is a beach resort town nearly as far north as you can go along the coast and a great base to visit both the Great Barrier Reef, the world's largest reef system, and Daintree National Park, home to biodiverse rainforest. Macrossan Street is lined with boutique shops and restaurants, we had some of the best seafood and meals here, the restaurants are such high quality and prepared by up-and-coming chefs. Four-mile beach is stunning with a backdrop of mountains in the distance, a perfect spot for some energising yoga on the beach which happens every day at 8am – I managed to make it a few times. We prebooked a trip to the Daintree Rainforest and the Barrier Reef both of which were really special. Port Douglas has a great climate and we enjoyed warm temperatures even though it was their winter. There's so much to do, you could easily spend 2 weeks here, we had 7 nights a perfect balance to the travelling we did for the first half.
